Spain vs Armenia Match Highlights UEFA World Cup Qualifiers 9/10/2008

Match Highlights, Misc, World Cup

The Euro 2008 champions Spain romped home with a comfortable 4-0 win over hapless Armenia, with David Villa scoring another goal to add to his tally on Saturday. The passing movements that led to the goals were simply breathtaking and Spain again showed the world how the Beautiful Game should be played, albeit against a football minnow. They ran Armenia ragged all over the football pitch, and could have scored more if they have not tried to walk the ball into the net so often. If they can replicate this style and form against the best again in two years’ time, who is to say that they cannot go on to become World Champions?

Finland vs Germany Match Highlights UEFA World Cup Qualifiers 9/10/2008

Match Highlights, Misc, World Cup

Germany seem intent to prove to the footballing world that they are the best attacking force around and they certainly showed that with a three goal comeback against Finland. Their defending will need some extra training sessions though, as they struggled to cope against a side that nobody would be afraid of. But what was also important was the legendary never say die attitude of the Germany players, who, with the recovered form of much derided striker Miroslav Klose, thrice came back from single goal deficits to draw three all at the end of the match.

Peru vs Argentina Match Highlights CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers 9/10/2008

Match Highlights, Misc, World Cup

Once again, the supremely talented Argentina failed to win for the second consecutive match in a week as they drew with Peru 1-1, that has left them level on points with Brazil in the qualifying table. The gap between them and Paraguay has widened, although the top four will qualify automatically for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But it is also a matter of pride and Argentina will need to do better than this next month when the next round of qualifiers takes place.

Cambiasso opened the scoring with a deft flick off a low cross from the right in the second half, before a sensational last minute equaliser from Peru shocked the Olympic champions. But Argentina should have put the result beyond doubt before then, and paid the price for some wasteful finishing and lacklustre play.
