Chelsea Eyeing New Move For Liverpool Star Fernando Torres In January

English Premier League

Chelsea are apparently now ready to swoop for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres next January as they look to take advantage of the growing crisis at Anfield.

The Premier League champions had been keen to sign the Spanish star earlier this summer and rumours claimed that Liverpool had turned down a £25 million offer from the Blues for their prized hitman.

However, touched by a personal visit in South Africa from Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, Torres underlined his commitment to the club at that time by insisting that he was at the best club in the world.

The Reds have endured a miserable start to the new season though, with just one win in eight Premier League games seeing the club lying in a lowly 19th place, while crashing out in the Carling Cup to League Two strugglers Northampton Town.

Torres has also displayed all the wrong body language on the pitch, toiling to just one goal all season and appearing to lack the stomach for the fight.

With former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett now having made way for what appears to be a promising new ownership under New England Sports Ventures, Chelsea are hoping to test the resolve of the new owners by offering a massive package for the Spanish World Cup winner.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is relishing the prospect of pairing Torres with his star striker Didier Drogba before the younger Spanish striker takes over the Ivorian’s mantle at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Believes Wayne Rooney Will Remain At Manchester United

English Premier League

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed the possibility of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney leaving Old Trafford and believes that the Premier League club has the power to keep the player.

Rooney has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days after appearing to have fallen out with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, culminating in the striker contradicting the Scot publicly last week over the issue of his supposed ankle injury.

Ferguson had insisted that he had not played Rooney in recent game due to an ankle injury but the former Everton starlet claimed last week that he has no such problems and had been training fully fit all season.

Rooney is now reportedly keen on a move to Manchester City as the speculation surrounding his future reaches fever pitch.

Despite the media spotlight on the striker’s situation, Wenger is convinced that Rooney will remain at Old Trafford because it is “his club”.

“Rooney is a great player. I am convinced he will stay at Manchester United because it is his club,” Wenger said.

“They have the power to keep him. When you give a great player a rest, you have a story. Rooney is Rooney. He will stay where he is.”
